Traditional Yang Style Taiji Dao (Sabre)
with Master Tary Yip
Dao is one of the oldest weapons in Chinese martial art history. There are 18 commonly used weapons in ancient China, and dao is at the top of the list.
The routine is called Taiji 13 sabres, and is built on the foundations of taiji hand form. The hand form was traditionally called taiji 13 postures, describing the thirteen main taiji techniques, and the sabre form was named to show the connections with the hand form.
This sabre routine was passed down from Grand Master Yang Cheng Fu, the third generation bearer of Yang style taiji.
The training over the weekend is essentially the first stage in learning this beautiful form. It will be conducted by Master Tary Yip, who will give participants an insight to the practice of Tai Chi Sabre and ensure a correct understanding of the routine and the techniques involved. Do please note however that it is not possible to learn this form accurately from start to finish in just one weekend. Depending on numbers interested, follow-up training will be scheduled at the end of the workshop.
Who is it for?
This weekend is open to booking for members and non-members, but please note you should already have reasonable sword experience to really be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
